Mother's Day with Janesi Comfort

Less than a week til Mother's Day. While it is easy as a brand to whitewash events like these into a cheery veneer of consumption I want to acknowledge that this holiday, and many like it, are complex times for many of us. My household is a perfect example. I absolutely want use this time to wish my mom the very merriest of days and thank her for everything she did to get me to where I am today. She always has been there for me and my family and is a force in her community. Such an inspiration. But the very genesis of Janesi Comfort comes from the memory of one of my other great inspirations, Jolene, my late wife.

This means that for me with my children this is a holiday of remembrance, of celebrating what was. There are a lot of joyous memories to recount, plus we have the constant reminder that we are building a company in her image which helps with keeping her present, but it is still hard. And I know it will always be hard because this is not one of the wounds you wish to heal. We will continue to grow and if we honor her in the way she deserves we will flourish as all the work and love she planted while with us continues to blossom.

Janesi Comfort is in the business of making items for people during vulnerable times of their life. Mothers are mythologized as tent poles of families, and often they are, but they too are human. Some are not in places where they are capable of being good parents, rarely as a choice. Some are taken away far too soon, as in our case. And some need space to fight their own battles before they can get back to nurturing others. At Janesi Comfort we would like to acknowledge these complexities and give thanks for all the mothers, mother figures, and support networks that comfort us and keep us whole. May you all find the comfort you deserve.
